As I am an Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer by profession I do have some ideas how things are, why thing are like they are and how things should be.
For people that does not know what a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer is I can tell you that it is just a nice name for a Grease Monkey. As I am a licensed one I am allowed to approach an aircraft on my own and get dirty. This also means that I can supervise other people when they are geting dirty and also inspect and release other peoples dirty things to service.
As I have done this for about 20 years I sort of gained a bit of experience in this and a bit of understanding how things works or dont work. I also realized that most people do not understand the basic main rule behind a design.
Here are the designers ideas behind a design.
-If it has bolts, screws or nuts the designer expects it to break down
-If it has bolts, screws or nuts the designer wants you to open it and take a look at the inside
-If it has rivets, are welded or glued together the designer do not expect it to break down every day.
-If it has rivets, are welded or glued together the designer does not want you to open it every day.
Most people think that bolts, screws and nuts are there to hold things together.
This is totally wrong. They are only there to make it possible for you to remove them.
Welding does the job very good so I totally convinced that bolts are only there because they are supposed to be removed
Ducati developed this to a higher level and they equipped the bikes with a very advanced "automatic disassembly system"
Some people does not understand it again and calls it Italian crap. It is just due to a misunderstanding of the designers ideas behind the design.
What this means is that nuts, screws and bolts are coming of by them self in a randomly selected order that is not possible to predict and it will always make you driving to an experience. They even went so far so they took it to both the flywheel nut and they even managed to get a automatic "decroming system" on the camrockers.
You never see this level of technology on a German or a Japanese bike.
