Engine Rebuild

This box was sent to Guy Martin packed with one crankshaft with conrods, 2 cylinder head and 2 pistons. 29,7 kg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This thing really needs a diet. Now it is just to wait and hope for the best..
Guy told me "You can trust FEDEX. They never loose anything". I hope it is right.

About a week later I received a mail from Guy with following text. Parts arrived undamaged. Crank was removed just in time. Who played with this engine before us? It has wrong type of rods. Who have been porting your heads? Call me. We need to talk!!!!!!!!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

This sounds expensive

So I called Guy. He is nice as always and tells me about the crank and he say that it is the wrong type of con rods but it should be alright with this ones anyway. Then he tells me about the heads and asks who did the job? I dont know I reply. He asks if the bike was running at all and I said yes. It was actually running good but I dont know how a bevel should run so what do I know. He then tells me about how bad the porting was and that the person that did the porting did not know allot about porting.

Now I started to get worried. This does not sounds good at all.

I ask Guy what my options are and he explains that it is no worries. The standard ports on a bevel are stone age from the fifties and sucks anyway so he always build up a lot of new material in the standard heads as he re works them totally anyway so it does not matter for him. He also tells me that I can expect a big performance improvement so after 45 minutes of transatlantic telephone conversation with Guy I feel much better.

He also told me that the rockers and the camshafts are perfect.

As you can see the shims and the bearings has been eating a lot of material in the crank shaft.

More then just signs of wear

The main reason for big end failure? Worn shims and wobbly conrods that will eat bearings due to that

The conrods are missing a bit of material to.

My plan is that the heads and the crank will be finished in the end of February or March so now it is just to wait and do something else. How about some polishing?
