Making some Tools
Feb 2006
When I disassembled the engine I did not have all the tools needed so I had to use a lot of BFI.

BFI is a nice abbreviation sometimes used in aviation when you try to do something and it does not turn out the way you want it. Some times it goes wrong due to the fact that you do not understanding how the thing you are working on works but most of the times just because you don’t have the right tools.

It is when you have to tell the stupid thing that now we are going to do this my way. Normally you get a bigger hammer or some bigger spanners or pliers. It can end in two ways. It turns out good or you break the thing you are working on.

BFI stands for Brutal Force and Ignorance and describes how you are applying “a force”. Most of the times much bigger force than needed to the thing you are working on.

“Man, this one needed a lot of BFI to come loose”

Means it was really difficult to get it of and I was using so much force so I was thinking that I would break it.

To be able to assembly the engine in a proper way a need some tools. Tools are expensive and I like files so why not try to make some tools.

To remove and install the nut at the front sprocket I needed a tool. I measured it up and tried to find some thing useful. I found that this 41mm socket would be perfect. It just needed a little bit of modification.
After a few hours of filing it looked like this. This was of course not a high quality socket. It was just a cheap one made from “Farmer Iron”. If it had been a snap on it would not be possible to file it by hand. It works perfect so I am happy
So now we have a useless 75mm steel tube that is to long.
Marking out what should be left
1 peace on 75mm steel tube
The hard work starts
I was cutting the tube to a size that was good and tried to find some thing to attach it to. The only socket that fitted I actually need like a socket so welding was not an option. I drilled 3 holes. Made some threads in the holes and bolted them together. Now I have the tool I needed and the socket still works like a socket. And yes. I will install shorter screws. I just need to find them some were.
